What is EANS and how can it benefit my school?

The Emergency Assistance for Non-Public Schools (EANS) program provides assistance to eligible non-public schools that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. This program is separate from the Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) under the E-rate Program, which provides funding for connected devices and broadband internet service to eligible schools and libraries.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the EANS program, non-public schools must meet certain criteria. The school must have an enrollment of at least 5 and no more than 50 students, be located in the United States, and have been in operation prior to March 13, 2020. Additionally, the school must have experienced a significant disruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funding

The EANS program provides funding to eligible non-public schools for a variety of activities related to educational technology, which can include cybersecurity and information technology. This includes purchasing hardware, software, and connectivity to support remote learning, upgrading existing technology infrastructure to support remote learning, providing professional development and training for teachers and staff to use educational technology effectively and securely, and other activities related to educational technology that are necessary to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and support student learning and safety.

Application Process

To apply for EANS program funding, non-public schools must submit their application through their state’s department of education. The application process may require schools to provide information about their enrollment, demographics, and the impact of the pandemic on their operations.

To access the state-specific application information and apply for funding, visit the United States Department of Education’s website at https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/oii/nonpublic/eans/index.html. On the website, you can find a State Allocation Table that lists the state education agencies and their EANS program funding allocations, as well as links to the state’s application information.

Funding Amount

The amount of funding available to each non-public school varies by state, with the total amount of funding for the program nationwide being $2.75 billion.

Deadlines

It’s important to note that application deadlines and award notifications vary by state. Non-public schools should refer to their state’s department of education or check the EANS program’s official website for updates on specific deadlines and requirements.
